Breathtaking canyon in North
Kurdistan discovered by accident

A once hidden site of exceptional national beauty is now attracting tourists from all over Turkey

Saklikapi - which means 'hidden door' in Turkish - was discovered by accident.

Fethi Ak, from a nearby village, stumbled upon the canyon while looking for mushrooms, Hurriyet Daily News reported last month.
Ak, who is from Elazig province in eastern Turkey, shared photos of the canyon on social media, and with academics in the province.

Local government then facilitated tourist access to the remote and rugged site.

Ozuk Ozturk is an architect who recently made his first trip to the area, he told Anadolu Agency (AA).

Despite the obstacles he faced reaching Saklikapi, he was amazed by its beauty.

"I had to jump from the stones and then climb the rocks at two points. However, I later saw the the wonderfully beautiful canyon. It is no doubt a place that should be visited by everyone who loves nature."
