Oh yeah, sure ! Ancient pagans cults from Mesopotamia to Greece and Rome, slaughtered everyday hundreds of animals (cattle, chickens, doves) and humans for ancient cults in Middle East and Carthage (all first son should be eaten by Baal) to Gods and Goddesses.

At least with Jewish monotheism, there was only one God to feed. Less greedy mouths. And with the destruction of the Temple, no more Jewish sacrifices.
