Gaza City residents told to leave

The Israeli military has told all residents of Gaza City to evacuate south to the central Gaza Strip, amid intensified operations in the north

Leaflets dropped by aircraft instruct "everyone in Gaza City" to leave what is described as a "dangerous combat zone" via designated safe routes - marked as two roads that lead to shelters in Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida
The UN has said it is deeply concerned about the evacuation orders being given. It is the second time since the war began that Gaza City as a whole has been asked to evacuate.

Over the past two weeks, Israeli forces have re-entered several districts where the military believes Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad fighters have regrouped since the start of the year.

Hamas has said Israel’s renewed activity in the city is threatening to derail negotiations over a potential ceasefire and hostage release deal, which resumed on Wednesday in Qatar. The talks are being attended by the intelligence chiefs of Egypt, the US and Israel, as well as the prime minister of Qatar.

Top Hamas official Hossam Badran told AFP that Israel "is trying to pressure negotiations by intensifying bombing operations, displacement, and committing massacres".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasised Israel’s commitment to a deal as long as Israel’s “red lines are preserved”.

There are estimated to be more than a quarter-of-a-million people still living in Gaza City - and some were observed evacuating to the south.

Others, though, were not willing to leave.

"I will not leave Gaza [City]. I will not make the stupid mistake that others have made. Israeli missiles do not differentiate between north and south,” resident Ibrahim al-Barbari, 47, told the BBC.

“If death is my fate and the fate of my children, we will die with honour and dignity in our homes,” he said
The Palestinian Red Crescent said it had received calls from some residents who were unable to leave their homes because of the intensity of the bombing.

"The information coming from Gaza City shows residents are living through tragic conditions. [Israeli] occupation forces continue to hit residential districts, and displace people from their homes and refuge shelters," it said.

In a statement issued earlier on Wednesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops had "conducted a counterterrorism operation" overnight against Hamas and PIJ fighters who were operating inside a headquarters of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) in Gaza City.

The troops had opened a “defined corridor to facilitate the evacuation of civilians” from the area before they entered the structure and “eliminated terrorists in close-quarters combat”, it added.

There was no immediate comment from Unrwa.

The IDF also said it had killed dozens of fighters in Gaza City's eastern Shejaiya district and dismantled an underground tunnel route over the past day.

Speaking in the Israeli parliament on Wednesday, Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said that 60% of Hamas fighters had been killed or wounded since Israel’s offensive began. The BBC could not independently verify these figures.

On Tuesday, the UN Human Rights Office said it was "appalled, external", external by IDF orders for residents to evacuate to "areas where Israeli military operations are ongoing and where civilians continue to be killed and injured".

It also warned that the Deir al-Balah area was already seriously overcrowded with Palestinians displaced from other areas of Gaza and that there was little infrastructure and limited access to humanitarian assistance.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza to destroy the Hamas group in response to an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on 7 October, during which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

More than 38,295 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants, but it had reportedly identified 14,680 children, women and elderly people among the dead by the end of April.

Israeli massacres with
    US-made weapons
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, says the targeting of civilians and all aspects of civilian life by the Israeli occupation is a sign of defeat, not a prelude to victory

The number of Palestinians killed in the massacre committed by Israeli occupation forces east of Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, has risen to 29, Al Mayadeen's correspondent confirmed on Wednesday, with the number likely to rise.

On Tuesday evening, Israeli occupation forces bombed al-Awda school in Aabasan in Khan Younis, which shelters thousands of displaced civilians.

According to its latest figures, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that more than 53 Palestinians were injured, including serious and critical cases, as a result of the latest Israeli massacre.

Our correspondent said that the Israeli occupation is committing more massacres in Rafah amid the collapse of the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip.

He highlighted that more than 70% of Gaza City is subjected to relentless aerial and ground bombardment
Elsewhere, he noted that signs of famine were worsening, leaving the people in Gaza with nothing to eat but the remaining leaves on the trees.

Hamas said the massacre represents a continuation of the genocidal war and heinous massacres against the defenseless Palestinian people.

In a statement, the movement urged the people of the occupied West Bank to activate all means of support and assistance, to confront the Israeli occupation, and to boost participation in the Al-Aqsa Flood Battle.

It also called on the Arab and Islamic peoples and the free peoples of the world to renew their uprising (Intifada) in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to immediately take to the streets with massive demonstrations and protests in all cities around the world
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, said the Aabasan massacre is a "crime of genocide and deliberate ethnic cleansing."

He pointed out that the targeting of civilians and all aspects of civilian life by the Israeli occupation is a sign of its defeat, not a prelude to victory.

Al-Rishq underlined that the crime of bombing defenseless civilians, including women and children, cannot be justified.

The Hamas official stressed that, after more than nine months of floundering without achieving any victory, all the Israeli occupation achieves are massacres against civilians.

This comes as Israeli occupation forces continue bombarding different areas across the Gaza Strip.

Al Mayadeen's correspondent said that two Palestinians were killed and six others were injured in an Israeli strike that targeted a house in the town of Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis.

Our correspondent pointed to a number of injuries in an Israeli airstrike on a house in the al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza City, in addition to artillery shelling on al-Zaytoun neighborhood.
Gaza civil defense decries Israeli targeting of civilian sites

In a related context, the Directorate of Supply and Equipment at the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza denounced the continued massacres carried out by Israeli occupation forces and the targeting of civilian sites and institutions designated as shelters, which puts at risk the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with US-made weapons.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the directorate condemned the Israeli occupation's use of prohibited bombs in densely populated areas, amid an increasing humanitarian blockade, the halting of fuel supplies to civil defense teams, and the reduction of fuel to other humanitarian institutions.

The directorate also called on the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to allocate fuel for civil defense teams to continue providing services amid the intensifying airstrikes and bloodshed that exacerbate the humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip.

It is noteworthy that the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Gaza announced that the number of its crews killed since the start of the Israeli aggression has risen to 76 martyrs.
PRCS unable to respond to distress calls due to Israeli bombardment

Similarly, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) stated that its crews are unable to respond to dozens of distress calls in Gaza due to the intensity and danger of the Israeli bombardment.

"Field reports from Gaza Governorate indicate that the situation for residents is extremely dire," the PRCS indicated on X, adding that "the occupation forces continue to target residential blocks and displace citizens from their homes and shelters."

The PRCS had earlier announced that all its "medical points and emergency clinics in the Gaza Governorate are out of service due to the Israeli occupation's forcible evacuation measures in various areas of the governorate where these medical points and clinics are located."

From Auschwitz to Gaza

If one reads the entire translated transcribed text of Himmler's speech carefully or listens to it, the thought might suddenly occur to one that history is repeating itself in today's political arenas

On 4th October 1943, Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, police, and Reich Minister of the Interior, gave a speech to a group of black-clad SS leaders in the Polish city of Poznan. It is a long speech in which Himmler gives free rein to his racist views after delivering a hate-filled tirade against Slavs in general and Russians in particular. Himmler's main focus here is on the Soviet Union and its peoples, and the course of the war on the Eastern Front.

He recounts banal, purportedly humorous, racist anecdotes about the inferiority of the Russians and the Asian "sub-humans", and admonishes the audience that "we" should not lose our [German] sense of humour despite the brutal war! At a certain point, he discusses the subject of the Jews and their fate, which lies in his and the SS's hands.

This speech is regarded by historians as a key document, because, in it, Himmler speaks quite openly about the genocide and extermination of the European Jews and praises the SS for their harsh, brutal actions in the occupied territories, portraying the massacre as the "never written and never to be written glorious page of SS and German history". Himmler verbatim:

"I also want to speak to you here, in complete frankness, of a really grave chapter. Amongst ourselves, for once, it shall be said quite openly, but all the same we will never speak about it in public. […] It was a matter of natural tact that is alive in us, thank God, that we never talked about it amongst ourselves, that we never discussed it.

Each of us shuddered and yet each of us knew clearly that the next time he would do it again if it were an order, and if it were necessary. I am referring here to the evacuation of the Jews, the extermination of the Jewish people. This is one of the things that is easily said: 'The Jewish people are going to be exterminated,' that's what every Party member says, 'sure, it's in our program, elimination of the Jews, extermination - it'll be done.' […] Most of you men know what it is like to see 100 corpses side by side, or 500 or 1,000. To have stood fast through this – and except for cases of human weakness - to have stayed decent, that has made us hard. This is an unwritten and never-to-be-written page of glory in our history,…" [bold script mine]
If one reads the entire translated transcribed text of this speech carefully or listens to it (some of it is also available in video or audio form), the thought might suddenly occur to one that history is repeating itself in today's political arenas - because of certain obvious parallels and similarities… as well as a significant detail that shows a difference in their representations.

The postmodern irrationality of fascist thinking back then is unmistakably recognisable in the words and actions of certain Western (especially Israeli, German, and American) politicians and elites today. [Examples are in the Appendix below.]

Yes, the Nazis were afraid to speak openly about their genocide in public, and the population also kept their mouths shut – or at least covered their mouths with their hands. The fear of the Gestapo was too great and the trust in their own rulers and their ideology and politics too deep ("if only the Führer knew"… "the German people are decent folk, they don't do such things"… "it's all Jewish propaganda", etc...). Even when Hitler was present, it was forbidden to mention the extermination of the Jews. The Führer found it distasteful.

After the war, when the Allies confronted the German population with the piles of corpses and the genocide, one could ponder the often adamant claim that "they knew nothing about all that" and possibly accept it - given the technical information resources back then. But, today, this is simply not possible. The ongoing genocide in Palestine and the atrocities committed by the Nazis in Ukraine are taking place live and in full view of the world public... and everyone is talking about it - with the exception, that is, of the Western elites and their media.

Today, many of the alleged descendants of those persecuted at the time, now in "Israel" - talk openly and unabashedly in public about the expulsion and extermination of the Palestinians, while their Western enablers avoid referring to the genocide in Gaza and the Nazi crimes in Ukraine as such
Himmler commended the SS commanders for their severity towards the "enemies of the German people" and assured them that "they had remained decent". They had "fulfilled this most difficult task out of love for their people" in order to avert harm from them (from which the recently often stated justification "their right to self-defence" in reference to the Israelis and Ukrainians can be derived) - "without having suffered mental or character damage in the process".

Today the "IDF" is presented and celebrated as "the most moral army in the world" by the Western élites and the Israelis themselves; after every murder and every act of brutality against the Palestinians, the "decency" of the IOF soldiers and "Israel's right to self-defence" is emphasised (Scholz: here). Additionally, the Western media always speaks of "Israel" as the "only democracy" in the region
The Nazi élites feared that openly publicising the murders would have made the population feel uncomfortable, which might have led to a loss of trust and even to protests and resistance. Given the circumstances at the time, this was not an unfounded fear. There are many court records of charges of "subversion of the war effort" for spreading "untruths". Many had to pay with their heads.

Today it is forbidden by law (exclusively in Germany - for the moment) and considered a criminal offence to delegitimise the state with "fake news". Doubting or even denying the right of the "Israeli state" to exist is deemed an act of "anti-Semitism" and can have serious consequences under criminal law.

It may just be a question of time before the concentration camp and the guillotine might be put back into operation – depending on the escalation of the existential crisis facing the Western elites and their supremacy.

Himmler said back in 1943(!) that "Russia will soon perish from 'the loss of blood' and starvation". And today, almost all leading Western politicians (von der Leyen, Baerbock, Kallas, Tusk, Duda, etc...) are talking about forcing Russia to its knees through sanctions… to defeat, destroy, and ultimately annihilate her by any means possible. Accordingly, Zelensky exclaimed: "Very soon there will be two Victory Days in Ukraine."
Himmler described the Russians as a "mixed race, racially inferior, uncivilised and not creatively inclined". Was this perhaps the ulterior motive of Ursula von der Leyen when she spoke of the Russians taking the chips from the washing machines imported from the West to use them for other purposes because they are not "creatively inclined" to develop such technologies themselves?

The existing form of fascism in "Israel" and the newly emerging form of fascism in the West are, of course, not the same as the fascism of the past. But that the Zionists and the far-right Greens in Germany have a kindred spirit with German-style fascism (Nazism) is more than obvious. The mental proximity to Nazi ideology can be seen in the Zionists' pathological hatred of Palestinians and the Greens' pathological hatred of Russians and Russia. "Israel's" settler colonialism bears quite a resemblance to the settlement projects and "blood and soil" ideology of the Nazis in Russia and Eastern Europe.

Himmler reassured the SS troops by telling them that they had remained "decent" and had not even lost their sense of humour despite "1000" corpses lying around. Today, in view of the numerous reports and images documenting the atrocities committed by the "most moral army in the world" and the "only democracy in the Middle East" - and not just since 8 October 2024 - no one can say the same about "Israel" - except its incorrigible German friends. Himmler might just rollick in his (unknown) grave with Schadenfreude.

Whatever the outcome of the war in Gaza, one thing is absolutely certain: just like the heroic efforts and defiance of the Leningraders, the struggle of the Palestinians, their sacrifices, their suffering, and their extraordinary resistance, along with those of their allies, will be inscribed in the pages of history in golden letters.

The Israelis and their accomplices will have to bear the eternal stain called "Gaza", just as the Germans and their European accomplices have been bearing the "Auschwitz+" stain since 1945. All attempts by the Germans to transfer their "guilt" to the Palestinians by worshipping "Israel" and condemning the true inhabitants of Palestine have failed - forever.

A few more exemplary statements from Israeli politicians…

Yoav Gallant, Security Minister - quote: "We are fighting human animals, and we are acting accordingly. We will eliminate everything - they will regret it."

Moshe Feiglin, Likud member, former leader of Zehut - quote: "There is one and only (one) solution, which is to completely destroy Gaza before invading it. I mean destruction like what happened in Dresden and Hiroshima, without nuclear weapons." // "Gaza should be razed and Israel’s rule should be restored to the place. This is our country."
Amit Halevi, Likud member - quote: "There should be two goals for this victory: One, there is no more Muslim land in the land of Israel … After we make it the land of Israel, Gaza should be left as a monument, like Sodom."

Bezalel Smotrich, Minister of Finance - quote: "We are negotiating with the ones that should not have existed for a long time. One with one hand, in God's will, we should deliver the final blow."

Nissim Vaturi, deputy speaker for parliament - quote: "Nakba? Expel them all. If the Egyptians care so much for them - they are welcome to have them wrapped in cellophane tied with a green ribbon."

Ariel Kallner, member of parliament - quote: "Nakba to the enemy now! This day is our Pearl Harbour. We will still learn the lessons. Right now, one goal: Nakba! A Nakba that will overshadow the Nakba of 48. A Nakba in Gaza and a Nakba for anyone who dares to join!"

**************************

Below are just a few exemplary statements from other Western politicians and a dead Russian opposition leader:

Nikki Haley, politician and "diplomat" USA - writes on an Israeli bomb bound for Gaza: "Finish Them!"

Lindsey Graham, Senator S. Carolina USA – quote: "[…] we decided to end the war by bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki with nuclear weapons. That was the right decision. Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war they can’t afford to lose. […] Why is it okay for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end their existential threat war? Why was it okay for us to do that? I thought it was okay. To Israel: do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state! Whatever you have to do!!"

+ quote: "We're not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term."

+ quote: "Is there a Brutus in Russia? Is there a more successful Colonel Stauffenberg in the Russian military? The only way this ends is for somebody in Russia to take this guy out. You would be doing your country - and the world - a great service. […] Unless you want to live in darkness for the rest of your life, be isolated from the rest of the world in abject poverty, and live in darkness you need to step up to the plate."

Brian Mast, Republican rep Florida USA - quote: "Israel should go in there and kick the shit out of them, just absolutely destroy them, their infrastructure, level anything that they touch. Clear enough?
Tim Walberg, Republican rep Michigan USA - quote, in reference to a temporary port the US plans on building for Gaza: "Why are we spending our money to build a port for them? […] I don’t think we should," […] "We shouldn’t be spending a dime on humanitarian aid. It should be like Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Get it over quick."

The German Green Party's "Manifesto of Principles - quote: "As a party, we are united by the foundation of values in this manifesto of principles, a common fundamental attitude to the world as it is and as it could be. Our vision is to make possible a life in dignity and freedom, today as well as the day after tomorrow, everywhere on this planet we inhabit together. [my emphasis]

Ursula von der Leyen, President EU Commission - quote: "The Ukrainians are ready to die for the European perspective. We want them to live the European dream with us."

+ quote: "Slava Ukraini."

Annalena Baerbock, Foreign Minister Germany - quote: "No matter what my German voters think. But I want to deliver to the people of Ukraine."

+ quote: "… because we are fighting a war against Russia and not against each other."

Josep Borrell, HR/VP of the European Union - quote: "Europe is a garden... the rest of the world is a jungle. And the jungle could invade the garden…"

Alexei Navalny, dead Russian opposition leader, adored by the West: in a video, standing beside an "illustrative" video screen, referring to Muslims as cockroaches and advocating for their extermination: "Hello! Today we will talk about insect control. None of us are immune from that. A cockroach will crawl into our house. Eww! Or a fly will fly in through the window. We all know that a fly swatter is great for getting rid of flies, and a slipper for cockroaches. [On the screen to the side appear bearded Muslim men with the words "lawless homo sapiens"] Well, what to do if the cockroach turns out to be too big and the fly is overly aggressive? Well, In this case I recommend a pistol."

Some cut to many pieces
    Some burnt alive
Expressions of "there was no trace of my child," "blood was the only thing you could hear, see and smell," and "the street was a pool of blood" unravel the horrors of the Aabasan massacre

Dozens of residents of Aabasan al-Kabira, located on the southeastern outskirts of Khan Younis in Gaza, were massacred by heavy bombs, which were dropped on civilians by Israeli warplanes. This is just one of thousands of similar massacres in recent months, through which Israeli occupation forces are turning Gaza into a lifeless region.

"There was no trace of my child," "blood was the only thing you could hear, see and smell," and "The street was a pool of blood" are testimonies The Guardian reported from survivors of one of four harrowing massacres that occurred at or near schools housing forcibly displaced families over the course of four days last week
On Saturday, an Israeli strike targeted a UNRWA-run school in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where approximately 2,000 forcibly displaced individuals were taking shelter, resulting in the killing of 16 people.

On Sunday, an Israeli strike on a church-run school in Gaza City resulted in the killing of dozens, as reported by local sources
Additionally, on Monday night, another UNRWA-run school in the al-Nuseirat camp was bombed by Israeli airstrikes, resulting in several casualties.

'There was no trace of my child'

Last Tuesday evening, at around 6:30 pm, Rita Abu Hammad, an energetic and cheerful eight-year-old, stood in front of the school where her family had been sheltering for weeks amid the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza. Nearby, in a tent, were her three brothers, sister, and their mother, Rima Abu Hammad.

“Suddenly, we heard sound of a missile, and then a very strong explosion,” Abu Hammad, 36, told The Guardian. “Then the sound of screaming, ashes, and blood were the only thing you could hear, see and smell. When I pulled myself together, I remembered that my daughter had been standing near the school’s gate. I ran madly, and screaming her name.”

In piercing pain, Abu Hammad began looking for her daughter, searching through the injured, the dead, and the scattered body parts, but she was unable to find her.

“There were many bodies, including children, women, and men, some cut to many pieces, some burnt alive. The street was a pool of blood. But there was no trace of my child,” she sorrowfully said.

Abu Hammad and her relatives spent an hour searching around the site of the school bombing in Aabasan. When they still couldn’t find her daughter, they went to the hospital and separated to continue the search.

“I said to my brother, I will go to the emergency department, and you will go to the mortuary and look for her. After a long search, I found her, she was alive but badly injured with shrapnel in the back and chest,” she said.

“I felt very happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because I did not lose her, she was still alive with me, and I felt sad for her condition and pain, but I still thank God for her presence and that she was not among the children who died there. It is true that the war is nine months old, and every day has been difficult, but I did not have a harder day than that day," she painfully narrated.

'Friends and people around me, cut into pieces, and killed'

On Tuesday, Khaled Abu Anza, 23, was sitting at the gate of the Aabasan school next to his Wi-Fi stall when the Israeli airstrike hit.

“We were going to go and play football but we decided to stay. There was an explosion and when I looked around, I found all my friends and people around me, cut into pieces, and killed. I wanted to help people but when I looked at myself, I found that I had shrapnel in my chest, back and feet, and I was bleeding,” he told The Guardian.

“After about 20 minutes, a truck came and they carried me with it, and it was full of corpses … And I was the only living person in the truck … This is enough, ........................, just to stop the war," he agonizingly said.

'Daily vision of horror'

Over the weekend, the UN and other humanitarian officials reported worsening conditions as temperatures reached 40°C, highlighting shortages of essential supplies, limited water, and increasing disorder.

An official described the situation as a “daily vision of horror" with minimal stocks of medicine, insufficient supplies of food, and “nowhere near enough water."

“Hospitals keep reopening with fewer doctors, less machines, less medicines each time. They are run by an army of burned-out heroes,” the official stressed, as reported by The Guardian.

Dr. Mohamed Saqr, the head of nursing at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, told The Guardian that the situation there was “catastrophic”. Even before the brutal Israeli attacks last week, the hospital was full.

“We are the only operating major hospital in southern Gaza serving more than 1.2 million residents and displaced people in Khan Younis. There were no single empty beds, even in the emergency department,” Saqr bitterly stated
When the school was bombed by Israeli airstrikes on Aabasan, the Nasser Hospital received 23 martyrs and 56 injured in less than half an hour.

“The situation was very difficult. We did not have sufficient tools or equipment, not even sterilizers or even gauze to wrap wounds, even gowns for operations. We treated the injured on the floor of the reception area or in corridors,” Saqr stressed.

David Lammy calls for ceasefire

David Lammy has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during his first visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories as foreign secretary

"I’m here to push for a ceasefire," he said. "The loss of life over the last few months... is horrendous. It has to stop."

Mr Lammy also urged the release of all hostages held in Gaza and an increase in the flow of aid to the territory.

The newly appointed minister held talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority PM Mohammad Mustafa on Sunday.

He also met family members of hostages still held in Gaza who have links to the UK.

After the meeting Sharon Sharabi, whose two brothers Elie and Yossi were taken hostage on 7 October, said: "Mr Lammy promised to do everything to bring the hostages home. The UK government has committed to be involved in a process with all the relevant sides."

In February the Israeli military said that Yossi Sharabi was killed and that it was likely a result of an IDF air strike. It is thought his body remains in Gaza.

Mr Lammy is due to meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog later on Monday.

"It’s important that, whilst we are in a war, that war is conducted according to international humanitarian law," he said.

"Of course I will be pressing Israeli leaders on that subject over the coming days.”

The foreign secretary also expressed frustration over a lack of British aid trucks entering Gaza “after months and months of asking", echoing long-running complaints from aid agencies about deliveries being blocked or delayed by complex inspections imposed by the Israeli military.

He said the humanitarian situation in Gaza was "appalling" and that the UK would be providing an additional £5.5m to medical charity UK-Med to fund its work in the territory.

The Labour Party has recently faced a backlash from some Muslim voters over its response to the conflict, which many consider insufficiently critical of Israel.

The new government now faces decisions on several key issues, including whether to limit or stop weapons sales to Israel over the loss of civilian life.

Asked about the sales, Mr Lammy said he would "look at the assessment and the legal considerations".

"That process has begun and I hope to report to Parliament as soon as I possibly can," he added.

He also said he would make a statement about the future of UK funding to the UNRWA - the UN's main agency providing aid in Gaza - in the coming days.

The UK was among more than a dozen countries that suspended funding to the agency in January over allegations that several staff members were involved in the 7 October attack, and is one of only a few that are yet to restore it.

Labour has also pledged to recognise the Palestinian state, though has not yet said when it will do so
Israel launched its operation in Gaza following last October's Hamas attack, which saw around 1,200 people killed and 251 taken hostage.

Mr Netanyahu has said Israel will continue its war until all the hostages have been released and Hamas has been destroyed.

At least 38,584 people have been killed in Gaza during Israel's offensive, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. A UN-backed assessment last month found there was a "high risk" of famine in the territory, with almost half a million people facing “catastrophic levels” of hunger.

The ministry also said at least 141 people had been killed in Israeli strikes since Saturday. Israel said one of those strikes, which hit a humanitarian zone, was targeting a senior Hamas leader.

320 cases of severe burns

In only 48 hours, more than 320 martyred and injured Palestinians were brought into hospitals in Gaza with severe burns due to "Israel's" usage of internationally prohibited weapons, according to Gaza's Government Media Office

In a statement on Monday, it said that “These are unconventional and internationally prohibited weapons, are banned for use against humans, and mostly American-made," adding that the bodies were "severely burned due to the "Israeli occupation army's use of internationally prohibited weapons."

“According to medical estimates, the weapons used by the Israeli occupation army causing this type of third-degree burns are missiles and bombs known as thermal weapons or chemical weapons."

The Office highlighted that these weapons “cause a chemical reaction with the skin, leading to chemical erosion of tissues” in the body, causing severe pain and physical damage, “resulting in deadly burns within 27 hours or less," stressing that it strongly condemns the crimes done by the Israeli occupation against children, women, and civilians.

The Government Office also called on the international community “to condemn these burning crimes against civilians, to pursue the occupation, and to prosecute it before international courts," while holding the United States accountable for supplying the Israeli occupation with these weapons.

Washington is complicit

Washington has provided Tel Aviv with weapons since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, making it complicit in the horrific crimes being committed against the Palestinians. The US is also set to supply "Israel" with weapons worth billions of dollars in the coming months.

The Israeli occupation persisted in its aggression against the Gaza Strip for the 284th day on Tuesday, committing horrific massacres against civilians, killing and injuring dozens after the occupation bombed different areas in the Gaza Strip.

Al Mayadeen’s correspondent reported that an Israeli airstrike targeted the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) school of al-Razi in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, where many forcibly displaced families were taking refuge.

23 Palestinians were killed in the horrific massacre and dozens were injured.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced in its daily report on Tuesday that the number of Palestinians killed in Gaza due to the Israeli genocidal war ongoing since October 7 has now reached 38,713, in addition to 89,166 injuries. Additionally, it confirmed that Israeli occupation forces committed two massacres in the previous 24 hours, killing 49 and injuring 69.

Flies, mosquitoes infest water and sewage hazards

The potential for cholera and other more deadly diseases spreading like epidemics continues to be highlighted by UN agencies time and time again

The intense smell of sewage, which is becoming more and more of a hazard, coupled with the ongoing genocide, is an unfortunate everyday occurrence in Umm Nahed Abu Shar's tent in a Gaza camp at every meal.

The Gaza Strip is "drowning" in hundreds of thousands of tons of uncollected human waste and debris from the war on Gaza, according to a report released on Thursday by a European activist group. This situation might quickly extend to the neighboring region.

In the central Gazan city of Deir el-Balah, where authorities announced this week that wastewater treatment plants had gone offline because of the lack of fuel, Abu Shar and her family are experiencing a nightmare in their tent amid rising summer temperatures.

"We are just suffering; we are not living," Abu Shar told AFP, adding, "The heat, the diseases, the flies, the mosquitoes and their hissing, it all hurts us".

"We don't sleep at night because of the smell of sewage. My children do not sleep because they are always ill with something spread by the waste."

Doctors report that lice, scabies, chicken pox, skin rashes, alongside hunger that has been prevalent in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7 are also rapidly spreading.

The potential of cholera and other more deadly diseases spreading like epidemics has been highlighted by UN agencies time and time again.

'Chemical debris soups'

Muhammad al-Kahlot of the Palestinian Red Crescent in Gaza says that for the past week, a fire has been burning on one dump in Al-Mawasi, a massive tent city next to Khan Yunis which emergency services have been unable to stop.

"We are suffocating from the foul smell of waste, the smoke and the heat," he expressed.

In a recent research, the Dutch activist group Pax revealed that Gaza's outdated trash collection system had been completely destroyed by "months of continuous bombing" and "Israel's" fuel blockage.

"Local authorities report that the Israeli Defense [occupation] Forces are preventing access to Gaza's three official landfills", he added.

Pax analyzed satellite photos that revealed 225 expanding waste sites around Gaza.

A "chemical soup" of debris and heavy metals, according to the group, could pollute farms and water sources, and "eventually toxic substances penetrate the food chain and find their way back to humans".

Pax cautioned that the threat might extend beyond of the war zone since water can "migrate over long distances."

"While the danger for Gaza is imminent, the overall region could soon confront grave ecosystem and public health problems", it continued.

Data back in May revealed that 53% of the 603 examined water facilities were either destroyed or damaged. Water in the Gaza Strip was already a limited resource dependent on a network of water wells and desalination plants before "Israel" further exacerbated its scarcity.

Israel weaponizing water since 1993

International humanitarian organization Oxfam strongly criticized the Israeli occupation for employing water deprivation as a method of warfare against the civilian population in the Gaza Strip

In a new report published on Thursday, Oxfam condemned what it described as a systematic and deliberate tactic that violates international law and constitutes a blatant disregard for human life.

The report highlights that since the 1993 Oslo Accords, the Israeli occupation has utilized water deprivation to "dehumanize and ultimately threaten Palestinian lives."

The near-total destruction of Gaza's water and sanitation infrastructure by Israeli military actions has, according to Oxfam, significantly contributed to causing and exacerbating the dire living conditions in the blockaded Strip.

Key findings of the report indicate that the water supply in Gaza has been slashed by 94%, leaving residents with less than five liters of water per person per day - far below the minimum emergency threshold recommended by international standards.

"Israel's actions have deprived the entire population of Gaza of life-saving water and sanitation services, creating unavoidable immediate and long-term threats to people's health and survival," the report stated.

The lack of clean water and sanitation has led to a quarter of Gaza's population suffering from preventable diseases.

Cutting off external water supplies

Oxfam also accused the Israeli occupation of exacerbating the water crisis by cutting off external water supplies, destroying water facilities, and deliberately obstructing aid efforts aimed at helping Palestinians in Gaza.

The report mentioned that five water infrastructure sites have been damaged every three days since the onset of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The humanitarian situation has been further compounded by continuous bombardments, which have obliterated the capacity of humanitarian actors to provide essential emergency services.

The Israeli occupation forces have destroyed 70% of all sewage pumps and 100% of wastewater treatment plants, which resulted in widespread sewage contamination, posing severe health risks to the people of Gaza.

Oxfam has called on the Israeli occupation to lift the blockade on Gaza and facilitate unhindered access to humanitarian aid, including food, clean water, sanitation, and shelter.

The organization also urged the international community to take decisive action to uphold justice and human rights, prevent further suffering, and protect the rights of Palestinians as enshrined in the Geneva and Genocide Conventions.

Gaza camps suffering the most

In a Gaza camp, Umm Nahed Abu Shar's daily meals are marred by the overwhelming stench of sewage, an increasingly hazardous problem exacerbated by the ongoing war on Gaza.

The situation is a stark representation of the broader humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands of tons of uncollected waste and war debris are accumulating.

A report released on Thursday by a European activist group highlighted the dire conditions, warning that the crisis could soon affect neighboring regions.

In Deir el-Balah, a central Gazan city, authorities have announced that wastewater treatment plants have shut down due to a fuel shortage. Abu Shar and her family, living in a tent, face unbearable conditions as summer temperatures soar.

"We are just suffering; we are not living," Abu Shar told AFP. "The heat, the diseases, the flies, the mosquitoes and their hissing, it all hurts us."

The unbearable smell of sewage prevents Abu Shar and her children from sleeping, as they continually fall ill from diseases spread by the waste.

Doctors report a surge in cases of lice, scabies, chickenpox, and skin rashes, compounding the widespread hunger that has plagued Gaza since the conflict began on October 7.

UN agencies have repeatedly warned of the potential for cholera and other deadly diseases to spread rapidly, emphasizing the urgent need for humanitarian intervention.

ICJ: Israeli occupation of Palestinian
    territories is illegal
The UN's top court has said Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories is against international law, in a landmark opinion

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) said Israel should stop settlement activity in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem and end its illegal occupation of those areas and the Gaza Strip as soon as possible
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the court had made a "decision of lies".

The court's advisory opinion is not legally binding but still carries significant political weight. It marks the first time the ICJ has delivered a position on the legality of the 57-year occupation.

The ICJ, based at The Hague in the Netherlands, has been examining the issue since the beginning of last year, at the request of the UN General Assembly, external.

The court was specifically asked to give its view on Israel's policies and practices towards the Palestinians, and on the legal status of the occupation.

Delivering the court's findings, external, ICJ President Nawaf Salam said it had found that "Israel's... continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is illegal."

"The State of Israel is under the obligation to bring an end to its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as rapidly as possible," he said.

He said Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005 did not bring Israel's occupation of that area to an end because it still exercises effective control over it.

The court also said Israel should evacuate all of its settlers from the West Bank and East Jerusalem and pay reparations to Palestinians for damages caused by the occupation.

Israel has built about 160 settlements housing some 700,000 Jews in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 1967. The court said the settlements were illegal. Israel has consistently disputed that they are against international law
The ICJ said Israel's "policies and practices amount to annexation of large parts of the Occupied Palestinian Territory", which it said was against international law, adding that Israel was "not entitled to sovereignty" over any part of the occupied territories.

Israel claims sovereignty over the whole of Jerusalem, the eastern half of which it captured in the 1967 Middle East war. It considers the city its indivisible capital - something which is not accepted by the vast majority of the international community.

Among its other far-reaching conclusions, the court said Israeli restrictions on Palestinians in the occupied territories constituted "systemic discrimination based on, inter alia, race, religion or ethnic origin". It also said Israel had illegally exploited the Palestinians' natural resources and violated their right to self-determination.

The court also advised states to avoid any actions, including providing aid or assistance, that would maintain the current situation.

Israel's prime minister swiftly issued a blunt statement rejecting what the court had determined.

"The Jewish people are not occupiers in their own land - not in our eternal capital Jerusalem, nor in our ancestral heritage of Judea and Samaria" (the West Bank), Mr Netanyahu said in a statement.

"No decision of lies in The Hague will distort this historical truth, and similarly, the legality of Israeli settlements in all parts of our homeland cannot be disputed."

But the court's findings were welcomed by the Palestinians.

Hussein Al Sheikh, the secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), the Palestinians' main umbrella group, called it "a historic victory for the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. And the collapse and defeat of the Judaization project through confiscation, settlement, displacement, and racist practices against a people under occupation.

"The international community must respect the opinion of international justice and force Israel to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories," he said
The court's findings will now go to the UN General Assembly, which will decide how to respond, including the option of adopting a resolution. That would be significant and could constitute a catalyst for negotiations and set the legal parameters for a future negotiated settlement.

This case is separate from another active case brought to the ICJ by South Africa accusing Israel of committing genocide against the Palestinians in the war in Gaza.

Israel killing of five-year old Hind Rajab
    may amount to war crime

Hind Rajab, the 5-year-old girl from Gaza, was found dead along with the bodies of five of her family members, in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City, in a vehicle that was surrounded by Israeli tanks

Independent experts have warned that the killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab, her family, and two paramedics could (SHOULD) constitute a war crime.

The experts condemned Israeli claims that its troops were not present in the area at the time as "unacceptable". They also called for an immediate halt to the attacks on Gaza's civilian population, which have resulted in the killing of over 38,000 Palestinians, including 13,000 children, cautioning that the widespread nature of these attacks might amount to a crime against humanity.

“The absence of proper investigation and accountability, more than five months after the tragic killing of Hind and six other members of her family trapped in a car which came under Israeli fire in Gaza is deeply troubling and may in itself amount to a violation of the right to life,” the experts said.

“The brutality of these killings seem to illustrate how reckless the army has been in its Gaza campaign: all instances of extrajudicial killing must be duly investigated and accounted for,” they added.

The experts stated that Hind's family, like many others in Gaza, had been forcibly displaced multiple times due to the Israeli aggression on the Strip.

They were killed, as per the experts, while fleeing the neighborhood of Tal al-Hawa in search of safety, which appears to be part of a broader pattern of indiscriminate killings of civilians trying to escape the relentless Israeli bombardment in Gaza following so-called "evacuation" orders from the Israeli military.

Not an isolated incident

The experts emphasized that the Israeli killing of Hind Rajab and her family is not an isolated incident but part of a troubling pattern.

“We are extremely troubled by the pattern of apparent indiscriminate and targeted attacks against civillians in Gaza, including on locations used for humanitarian assistance or to shelter IDPs,” they said.

“The firing of heavy-calibre projectiles at a humanitarian zone near an office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza, killing 22 displaced civilians, and most recently the attacks on IDP tents in Al Mawasi area, on Ash Shati' Refugee Camp, and on the UNRWA Abu Oreiban school sheltering IDPs, among others, killing nearly 320 Palestinians, half of them women and children, have reinforced the fact that there is no safe place in Gaza,” the experts added.

The experts emphasized that these attacks represent serious breaches of international humanitarian law. They urged that such attacks be promptly and thoroughly investigated and that those responsible be held accountable and face severe penalties
“The wilful or indiscriminate killing of protected persons, including civilians, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers, amount to war crimes, and if systematic, crimes against humanity, and should be prevented at all costs,” the experts cautioned.

“We remain deeply troubled by the total impunity and apparent lack of investigations, and prevention of these crimes. This is all the more worrisome in the context of the recent order from the International Court of Justice for Israel to take immediate measures to protect Gaza's population from the risk of genocide,” they said.

Furthermore, the experts called on the Israeli government to permit independent experts, including international human rights monitoring groups, to enter Gaza. This access is crucial for a credible investigation into all violations of international law that have occurred since the start of the Israeli military operation, as per the experts.

They also reiterated their demands for an immediate ceasefire and serious breaches of international human rights and humanitarian law.

Anonymous gives Israel 48 hrs. to end war

Hacker group Anonymous gives "Israel" a 48-hour ultimatum to stop its war on Gaza, or else it will publish confidential information and sensitive files in its possession of the Security Ministry

A load of documents, including identity cards, cheques, and personal data, were posted online by the hacking group Anonymous for Justice in Palestine on Tuesday, noting that the materials came from systems used by the Israeli Security Ministry.

This marks the second time after documents earlier this year of the military and justice ministries were hacked and made public.

The Israeli Security Ministry has not yet commented.

Hacker group "Anonymous" also issued a warning to "Israel" to stop its war on Gaza within 48 hours, or else it will publish confidential information and sensitive files in its possession of the Security Ministry, alongside data from the "Justice Ministry" from an earlier occurrence.

Back in April this year, NET Hunter, a newly-established cyber group, claimed it hacked into the Israeli Ministry of Security demanding the release of all Palestinian detainees or else the data obtained by them "will be sold to the pro-Palestinian states and part of them will be disclosed for the people of the world."

Before posting a video showing the hack and some of the documents obtained, the group said, "To support Palestine, court executors have the permission to negotiate over freedom of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the information," followed by a picture showing "their decision".

They said at the time that 500 Palestinian detainees must be freed, threatening, if not, to disclose all the documents obtained through the hack, exposing countries that claim to advocate human rights slogans, classified documents of the Israeli Ministry of Security, documents of cooperation agreement of states with "Israel", and data of senior Israeli officers and IOF manpower, alongside other important information.

Cyberattacks on Israeli websites are a regular occurrence for those worldwide who support the Palestinian cause. Israeli media said that the hacking group "Anonymous Sudan" carried out a cyberattack by interfering with the official bodies' ability to receive services last year.

The websites of Tel Aviv University, the Israeli water company Mekorot, and the newspaper Jerusalem Post were taken down following the collapse of the websites belonging to the Mossad and government insurance, according to information reported at the time by the Israeli media. Anonymous Sudan also confirmed that it had taken down the websites belonging to the Kan Broadcasting Corporation, Egged, Clalit, and Discount Bank.

Arrest the child killer:
Mass anti-Netanyahu rally outside Congress

Massive demonstrations continue in Washington against Netanyahu's visit amid the ongoing Israeli war of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip

Netanyahu’s visit to the United States of America and his anticipated speech before Congress have prompted massive demonstrations against the Israeli Prime Minister and the ongoing Israeli war of genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Protesters flocked to the area just outside the Capitol building before Netanyahu's speech before a joint session of the US Congress.

Hundreds of demonstrators have thus far gathered, waving banners and chanting slogans against Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden.

Police used pepper spray on some of the thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters who gathered outside the US Capitol on Wednesday while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to Congress.

The protesters are demanding the arrest of Netanyahu for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Among their other demands is an end to the genocidal war in Gaza and a halt to all arms supplies to “Israel”, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in the US.

Activists even dyed multiple fountains around Capitol Hill with red and projections cast demanding the arrest of Netanyahu.

BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS

Washington is witnessing unprecedented security measures ahead of Netanyahu’s speech before Congress, expected at 21:00 (al-Quds time), as the police blocked the streets last night and erected roadblocks nearby, amid heavy deployment of the Capitol Police in case the demonstrations get out of control.

Meanwhile, the US House Speaker threatened to arrest whosoever obstructs the speech, amid reports that about 80 members of the House of Representatives and at least 6 members of the Senate will not attend.

At night, hundreds demonstrated near the hotel where Netanyahu and his accompanying delegation were staying and hung banners saying, “Stop Netanyahu” on it. In the morning, protesters also demonstrated outside the hotel and chanted over a loudspeaker: “We are here to arrest you, Netanyahu is a war criminal.”

Moreover, more than 200 pro-Palestine demonstrators were arrested after they gathered in a Congress building to protest Netanyahu's expected speech.

This comes after activists stormed Congress ahead of Benjamin Netanyahu's speech in protest of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

Inside the US Capitol building, a group named "Jews Say Stop Arming Israel" gathered at the Cannon Rotunda in protest of Netanyahu's visit.

Over 400 American Jews protested at the Capitol building on the day after Netanyahu’s arrival and refused to leave, chanting “Arms embargo now," "Stop arming Israel," and other chants protesting the genocide in Gaza

There have also been calls for a mass demonstration on Wednesday in rejection of the Israeli Prime minister's address.

Over 20,000 US bombs, missiles sent to Israel

Many of these transfers were kept secret or remained partially confidential, according to NYT

The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing data from an analysis published by the Jewish Institute for National Security of America, that the US has sent "Israel" a substantial quantity of weaponry.

The shipments include over 20,000 unguided bombs, approximately 2,600 guided bombs, and 3,000 precision missiles. The US has also provided aircraft, ammunition, and air defense systems.

Many of these transfers were kept secret or remained partially confidential, the report notes
An analysis by the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in the spring found that the arms supplied up to March constituted "an enormous number and variety of weapons," which have been vital in supporting "Israel's" security apparatus.

The analysis also suggested that "it seems unlikely that Israel could attain across-the-board weapons and munitions self-sufficiency anytime soon)," with some experts believing it may never be able to do so.

Latest estimates from the Gaza Health Ministry reveal that the death toll has risen to 39,145 martyrs since October 7, while the number of injured rose to 90,257
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Congress to deliver a speech that featured several jabs at the International Criminal Court (ICC), which had requested the issuance of arrest warrants against him and his Security Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes in the Strip.

Among Netanyahu's claims concerned food aid deliveries to Gaza, the protection of Palestinian civilians, and the mediated negotiations with the Palestinian Resistance, all of which Al Mayadeen has compared with information and testimonies currently available to the public.

On the same day, massive demonstrations were held outside the Capitol building before Netanyahu's speech, with hundreds gathering, waving banners, and chanting slogans against Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden.

Police reportedly used pepper spray on pro-Palestinian protesters while Netanyahu spoke to Congress.

The protesters were demanding the arrest of Netanyahu for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Among their other demands is an end to the genocidal war in Gaza and a halt to all arms supplies to “Israel”, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in the US.

Death toll may be over 90,000

Surgeons, physicians, and nurses recount their experiences volunteering in Gaza amid Israel's ongoing genocide in a letter addressed to US President Joe Biden

Some 45 physicians and nurses who volunteered in Gaza have written a letter addressed to the Biden administration, which arrived on Thursday, stating that "Israel" claimed the lives of over 90,000 Palestinians during its ongoing genocide in the Strip and highlighting the occupation's war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law.

"President Biden and Vice-President Harris, any solution to this problem must begin with an immediate and permanent ceasefire," the eight-page letter said, demanding the United States impose an arms embargo against the occupation regime, as well as withdraw its diplomatic, economic, and military support until a ceasefire is implemented.

The 92,000 death toll

"It is likely that the death toll from this conflict is already greater than 92,000, an astonishing 4.2% of Gaza's population," the medics wrote, claiming the real death toll was significantly higher than the Palestinian Health Ministry's, which shows over 39,000 people have been killed.

"With only marginal exceptions, everyone in Gaza is sick, injured, or both," the medics stated, referring to national aid workers, international volunteers, and civilians
Israeli occupation snipers were intentionally targeting civilians, the health volunteers told The Guardian, stressing in their letter that the majority of Palestinians are women and children.

"We cannot forget the scenes of unbearable cruelty directed at women and children that we witnessed ourselves," they added in the letter.

"Israel's" international humanitarian law violations were also depicted in the letter, warning that "epidemics are raging in Gaza" due to the occupation's continuous displacement of malnourished and sick civilians, and the deprivation of running water and sanitation.

'Most traumatized people in the entire world'

The healthcare signatories described their Palestinian counterparts as "among the most traumatized people in Gaza, and perhaps in the entire world," due to their commitment to continue working despite losing their family members and homes, highlighting they often worked long hours without pay while malnourished.

"Israel has targeted our colleagues in Gaza for death, disappearance, and torture," they said. "These unconscionable acts are entirely at odds with American law, American values, and international humanitarian law."

Experiences of healthcare workers

"'Israel' has directly targeted and deliberately devastated Gaza's entire healthcare system," the letter stated, including individual accounts of healthcare workers recounting their horrific experiences during "Israel's" daily bombardment and assault on the small region.

The forty-five health volunteers include surgeons, emergency room physicians, and nurses from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other relief institutions who recently worked at hospitals in the Gaza Strip.

Trauma and critical care surgeon Feroze Sidhwa said he had "never seen such horrific injuries, on such a massive scale, with so few resources."

Medical practitioners who worked in the maternity ward described regular stillbirths and maternal deaths that could have been prevented under normal circumstances.

A pediatric nurse practitioner recounted witnessing healthy babies dying on a daily basis from starvation due to their mothers' inability to breastfeed from malnourishment, and the lack of baby formula and clean water.

"We wish you could hear the cries and screams our consciences will not let us forget. We cannot believe that anyone would continue arming the country that is deliberately killing these children after seeing what we have seen," the letter said.

Authorities designate Gaza Strip
    polio epidemic zone
The Ministry of Health in Gaza says a variant of the dangerous poliovirus was found in sewage water across densely populated areas in the Gaza Strip

The Ministry of Health in Gaza has declared the Gaza Strip an area affected by a polio (poliomyelitis) epidemic, a consequence of the prolonged 10-month Israeli war on the besieged region.

Health authorities explained that the announcement comes as a result of Israeli authorities depriving the population of usable water, destroying sanitation infrastructure, piling up thousands of tons of garbage, creating food insecurity, and overcrowding displaced people in imposed relocation areas.

Additionally, authorities discovered the virus "CVPV2", a variant of poliovirus that can cause paralysis and death in children, in sewage water in the Khan Younis and Central Gaza Strip governorates.

After becoming one of the most worrying children's diseases, polio cases rapidly decreased when a vaccine was introduced in the 1950s, however, the harsh conditions in the Gaza Strip risk a rise in cases affected by the dangerous infection.

As such, the Ministry said the situation not only threatens the residents of the Gaza Strip but may also threaten bordering countries. It also said that the epidemic is a setback for the global polio eradication program, as the disease had been eradicated in Palestine.

The health authorities in Gaza warned that the epidemic control program launched in partnership with international organizations, especially the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO), "will not be sufficient unless there is an immediate intervention to end the [Israeli] aggression."

Alongside implementing lasting solutions for the shortage of drinking water and personal hygiene products like cleaners and disinfectants, there is a critical need to repair sewage networks and remove the accumulated tons of garbage and solid waste, the Ministry explained.

Hospitals struggle to treat increasing viral, bacterial infections

In the same context, Dr. Khalil al-Daqran, a spokesperson for the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, warned earlier today of the newly discovered virus in the Central Gaza Strip. He said that the hospital’s situation is critical due to the increasing number of sick children and the worsening crisis.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, noted a widespread outbreak of skin diseases in the region, particularly among children, due to microbial infections of the skin.

The Gaza Strip and its residents have experienced unprecedented torment since the Israeli occupation launched its aggression. Israeli bombing campaigns have heavily targeted water and sewage infrastructure, as well as medical centers, highlighting "Israel's" systematic destruction of essential services and life in the territory.
