The Austrian Parliament voted to impose an arms embargo against Turkey.
The motion up for the vote on Thursday evening called for a ban on all military and dual-use goods, meaning products including chemicals and technology that may have both civilian and military purposes, Austrian media reported.
The motion, which was jointly put forward by six political parties, also calls on the EU to impose sanctions against Turkey.
Berivan Aslan, an MP from the Greens Party that sponsored the motion, said on her Twitter that the motion passed unanimously.
Austria adopted a legal status of permanent neutrality in 1955.
The decision of the Austrian parliament comes on the same day that the European Parliament voted to suspend membership talks with Turkey in light of Ankara’s crackdown after the attempted coup of July 15.
