Thank you for the post, Anthea. I did not recognize the name when I read it, but I do remember the incident in Paris. I would very much like to see the whole film.

You are probably aware that the PKK - once loved and followed by millions - was once a party fighting for an Independent Kurdistan - many THOUSANDS joined the PKK and died fighting for Independence

Certain traitorous people within the PKK, have betrayed the memory of all the fallen heroes (several being frineds of mine) and joined with other left-wing parties inside Turkey and now wants Kurds to live as brothers with murderous barbaric Turks X(

I believe Sakine was executed because she spent her entire life fighting for Kurdish independence and would not have been happy with the change in policy

I would say of Sakine "She did not suffer fools gladly"

I understand - but excuse me now, I don´t want to be rude or unsensitive about this. (I´m new to the whole situation with Kurdistan, please bear over with me.) :)

But isn´t the situation different now, that it was 10-20 -25 years ago? The situation for the Kurds in Turkey have somewhat improved, or am I wrong ?

Again, maybe I am over my head here, talking about something I don´t fully understand. But from my perspective, sitting in Scandinavia, the media coverage about the situation in Turkey is that things have improved for the Kurds. My friend, who is a Kurd herself, even says that it is not all bad under Erdogan - good things happen also. But the good stuff that happens, is not always picked up by the media. Am I wrong here?

The media :ymdevil:

In a way things have improved - there was a time that when Kurds went to protests, only one parent would go because there was a strong chance of being shot or imprisoned - unknown numbers of Kurds just disappeared

Thanks to social media, Turkey is no longer alble to do all it used to to Kurds

PKK started as a result of all the violence towards Kurds - long story

PKK promised a united Kurdistan and THOUSANDS of Kurds joined in the fight against the Turkish government

First big problem - most Kurds still have little or no knowledge of their history

Kurds bought up under the various armies of occupation had little of no knowledge of Kurds in other regions

At time of Ocalan's arrest there were 60,000 Kurdish freedom fighters in the mountains and a worldwide support network

Ocalan - who was not as brave as most of the freedom fighters - no where near as brave as Qazi Muhammad - started doing deals with Turkish government and got his death penalty changed to life imprisonment

At that time there was a split within the party - best not say too much about that - some people wanted to continue the struggle for freedom

After that the party mellowed and tried to make friendly with the murderous Turks - which they would not have done had they been fully aware of their history

Turkey wanted to join the EU - so Turkey used Ocalan to promote a so-called peace plan to he Kurds

The peace plan was little more than a list of EU requirements but many Kurds really believed it was some great master plan thought up by their leader Ocalan

Ocalan was used - the Kurds were used - the Kurds are always being used

Just a rough guide - more to follow

Not that I have talked to that many Kurds, but this is also my impression!
