Turkish warplanes conducted air strikes on a village in the Kurdistan Region, where they believed members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) to be located, on Friday (May 6).
NRT correspondent Guhdar Zebari said the Turkish jets shelled the village of Dipre in Akre district, located 120 km southeast of the city of Duhok at 3 a.m. on Friday.
Zebari said the warplanes fired four rockets, one of which struck inside the village and three struck the surrounding area. A number of livestock were killed due to the air strikes and houses, a mosque and a school were damaged.
The NRT correspondent reported the villagers, which include 15 families, decided to evacuate because their homes had been damaged by the rocket fire. He added there was no report of human casualties.
Four Turkish jets launched air strikes on Thursday night (May 5) on the villages of Khwakurk, Lolan and Garwi Karash in the sub-district of Bradost in Soran district, 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Erbil.
Turkey has stepped up aerial bombardments against the PKK in the Qandil Mountains, after a ceasefire between guerrillas and the military collapsed in July 2015.
Air strikes inside the Kurdistan Region have destroyed villages and agricultural areas across the Kurdistan Region’s northern border with Turkey.
