Iranian officials say border crossings with Kurdistan reopening today
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – As Iranian Kurds protested against high import tariffs and the closure of the semi-official border crossings with the Kurdistan Region, some points planned to reopen on Saturday, according to Iranian officials.
Parviz Eidepour, mayor of the Kurdish city of Paveh, announced that border activities would restart on Saturday.
The mayor of Qasr Shirin also said that the Parviz Khan border reopened on Saturday and people could cross using their electronic cards.
Only traders with electronic cards that allow them travel across borders reportedly can visit the Kurdistan Region to import goods and commodities worth up to 20 million rials at each entry. There is a list of 114 commodities that traders can import into Iran from Kurdistan.
Trading is allowed in the four border points of Sina province (Sanandaj) and two border points in Elam and Wrme.
Stores closed down in several Kurdish-Iranian cities last week as shopkeepers protested at the closure of the Baneh-Sairanband crossing and several other official border points with the Kurdistan Region, reportedly for security reasons
