I trained as a Deaconess (female almost vicar) and used to help a lot of homeless youngsters, taking many into my own home. I also use to open squats for the homeless and help to rewire them and locate furniture etc.

One Sunday afternoon I was at a friend's church when a group of youngsters came in looking for me. They had all their possessionc in plastic bags and asked if they could leave everything there until we found somewhere else for them all to stay.

My friend and I said yes because nobody would be using the LOVELY NEW church hall for a week - it was only used on Sunday mornings. The good Christian members of the management committee - there was a meeting taking place while we were there - refused to let the youngsters leave their bags there even for one night X(

Many of my vicar friends have tried to do things to help the homeless but it was always the church management committees who prevented them X(

All churches and Mosques have large buildings that are partly empty for much of the time. The only churches in England that actually do things for the community are the Methodist churches, and even they would not give overnight shelter to a homeless person

In the Islamic belief Mosques were supposed to provide food for the needy, the idea of soup kitchens actually comes from the Islamic ideology of not allowing people within a certain area surrounding a Mosque to go hungry, but in the UK even they seem to have forgotten those who need help most :((
