I don't think the Kurdish parties are aiming to administer Aleppo.

Qamishli City Officials Negotiate their Surrender
Image

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region -- Kurdish leaders say it is the matter of hours before Qamishli city is liberated from the Syrian security forces.

Qamishli is the biggest Kurdish city in Syria and the political capital of western Kurdistan.

Xemgin Derki, member of the Central Committee of the Wifaq (Accord) Party says: “Kurdish political parties were in talks with representatives of the regime asking them to leave peacefully, and Syrian regime’s officials have asked for guarantees and they will empty the area. This was the condition and the only outcome of the talks, but so far no response has been given to them from the Kurdish parties.”

According to Derki, a Kurdish military force trained in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in the past several months, is at Syria’s borders and read to march in if forces loyal to the regime refuse to withdraw from Qamishli peacefully.

“We will hear very good news about Qamishli by the end of this evening.” Derki said.

On Friday night scores of people took to the streets of Qamishli praising the peshmarga forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government [KRG]. Meanwhile, it was reported that around 2000 guerrilla fighters from the Kurdistan Workers Party [PKK] are deployed to the Kurdish areas of Syria.

Negotiations with head of Derki city council

Government institutions and public service offices in Derki city have all surrendered to the Kurds.

Political analysts and observers say, considering the current situation in the Kurdish areas of Derki and Qamishli, they could get liberated from the Syrian Ba’athist regime by the end of this evening.

According to information obtained by Rudaw from Derki, head of the city council had met with representative of the local Kurdish groups saying, “If you can guarantee my life, we will empty the government departments and public places and will leave the area.”

However, Xemgin Derki, member of the Central Committee of the Wifaq [Accord] Party, told Rudaw that the Kurdish political parties had not yet officially met with the head of Derki’s city council, “but some of the area’s elderly may have been sent to give them a one-day deadline to pack up their belongings, take their families and leave the area.”

At the heart of the Remelan oilfields, Derki is home to Syria’s biggest petroleum industry.

According to unofficial sources, the Syrian government does not want to lose this oil-rich region, therefore, the government and the Kurds may reach an agreement later on to peacefully seize control of the region.

So far, the Kurdish regions and towns of Efrin, Kobane, Amude, Derbasia and Sari Kani have all been liberated and currently run by Kurdish groups.

In the meantime, head of Democratic Union Party [PYD] Salih Muslim told Rudaw that liberating Qamishli could be a serious challenge for the Kurdish forces.

“Qamishli has a unique position,” he said. “It is very difficult to completely clear it [of security forces] straight away. Nonetheless, we have our forces there too. The People's Defence Forces are everywhere in Western Kurdistan to defend itself if the regime forces attack or bring reinforcements to the Kurdish areas.”

PYD, the dominant Kurdish force in northeast Syria was until recently against any interference in Syrian affairs and its leaders accused Syrian opposition groups of working for Turkey’s interests in Syria.

But leaders of the Kurdish National Council [KNC] and PYD officials met in Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq last month, and signed an agreement whereby they would run liberated Kurdish cities in Syria through a joint committee.

well it seems to be the largest city of syria and not really a city which is needed to connect the kurdish regions. so there is no big need for Aleppo but we should try to get control over a strip to the Mediterranean as we all know there is a large Kurdish population. Access to sea, even a very small strip, would change our situation in a even more positive one.

Are there any plans for independence when all cities are liberated?
