no not damaged, but these tanks needs officers to be trained on, service, spare parts and so on ... they can be used until they stop working but that is not what you want since they probably were bought for some hefty money .

i remember when Peshemrga was deployed to jalawla and Sadyea last year , there was GKTV presenter asking one of the commanders questions , and there was a helicopter hovering above , and few Peshmerga abruptly looked up and one of the Peshemrga in the background yelled "hi xomana" , "its ours" . i wonder which one of these it was :D

Hevalno do you know how big share the Peshmerga gets of the new warfare material? Like the Abraham tank or the F16 jets. And how do they count, is it in proportion to the size of the Peshmerga? Or the total Kurdish population in Iraq? Cuz if they don't have any plans of giving us any F16s then why should we stay within Iraq? But i hope we get at least a couple of the F16's because they will be needed in defending our airspace when we declare our independence.

KBC denies allegation that KRG seeks to buy F16

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Tue Apr 10, 2012 12:32 pm

if you read the article carefully it is obvious KRG has too decided to buy F16 to protect itself from the Iraqi army who has threatened to invade kurdistan
and when the MP says "i don't think" it doesn't mean they are not ;)

Image

An iraqi MP on KBC denies allegations that Kurdistan is seeking to purchase F16 fighter jets , he stated that equipping Peshmerga must be from the Iraqi government.

Hassan Jihad told (Kurdiu): " legally speaking, equipping the Peshmarga must be done along side equipping the Iraqi army no matter what type of weaponry Iraq purchases ".

Regarding buying weapon for Peshmerga he pointed out that KRG is responsible for establishing and equipping the Peshemrga .

At the meantime he announced " regarding the allegations i don't think KRG is seeking to buy F16 fighter jets ".

I don't think the KRG is being honest about their real budgets, I think they make a lot of money from the KRG industry and personal investments, which they don't mention. I mean, look how booming Kurdistan is. Do you really think that's what 25 billion (from Baghdad) $ can do that? I don't think so :P.

1 F16 cost around $17,000,000 US Dollars.

Would the KRG be able to buy 50 of those jets? That would cost them 850 million US Dollars + cost of maintenance.

But with 50 F16's you are able to protect your country very well, especially a small country like South-Kurdistan.

To bulid the plane it costs 17 000 000$. Iraq is buying F-16 block 52 but downgraded with AIM-7 missiles and AIM-9M,wich gives it the armenment of an Block 25. And iraq still pays 50mil dollars for each plane. they are not to be so afraid of,as turkey uses F-16 block 52s (some of them even with upgrades) and still can`t inflict heavy casulties on PKK. The peshmerga is much better equipped and trained. And they can certanly go over to gurilla warfare if its needed.
i hope KRG buys Block 60 or a real Block 52 without downgrades. Or even better, israeli F-16 wich are modified and MUCH MUCH better than normal F-16s (they can`t even be compared to the blocks).
and yes,i agree with you. KRG is hiding alot of things, and i certanly believe they can buy an air force consisting of these jets. \:D/
