The murder of Siphan Rojhilat committed by the PKK

An Iranian Kurd, who had formerly been responsible for coordinating the organization’s political activities with Iranian Kurdistan, was kidnapped from the car in which he was traveling and later his dead body was found by some villagers. It is reported that Shapour Badoshiveh (aka Siphan Rojhilat) was a Canadian citizen and he left Canada in 1993 to join to PKK for the freedom of Kurdish people.

Shapour Badoshiveh left PKK (currently known as Kongra Gel) four months ago after a major split of key political figures from the organization following their rejection of Kongra Gel’s return to armed struggle by the organization. At the time he left, Shapour Badoshiveh was one of the leading executives of PKK’s party responsible for Eastern Kurdistan, called “Kurdistan Independent Life Party (PJAK)”.

Shapour Badoshiveh left the PKK to join the Democratic Patriotic Party of Kurdistan (PWD), led by Osman Ocalan and Nizamettin Tas. This group is in the process of holding its first conference to establish a new democratic party that condemns all forms of violence.

Shapour Badoshiveh’s former party, Kurdistan Independent Life Party (PJAK) also condemned the murder with a press statement. One week ago, PJAK had also announced that they were not going to follow the orders of PKK due to their concerns that PKK did not sufficiently care about the concerns of Eastern Kurds any longer. The lengthy statement released after the death of Shapour Badoshiveh not only condemns the murder but also gives reasons for the split of PJAK:

“In a situation when the boundaries of recent changes and political conjuncture in the world and Middle East have created suitable conditions for a solution of complex issues, particularly the Kurdish Question, the preventive endeavors of Kongra-Gel (PKK) concurrent with the denial politics of the ruling states in Kurdistan, have reached their peak and more than ever revealed the fatal face of this organization pretending to be Kurdish but in reality anti-Kurdish.

When the leadership of PJAK tried to maintain an independent policy, the PKK created serious obstacles to prevent PJAK from independent political activities and eventually arrested 21 high ranking members of the PJAK and began terrorizing the rest. By this act PKK showed its anti-Kurdish character. PKK’s dark face of treason has been revealed by the kidnapping of Shapour Badoshiveh and his eventual assassination in the highway between Makhmour and Mosul in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Shapour was one of the most active and honorable members of the Kurdish Liberation Movement. When joining the movement, Shapour never hesitated in sacrificing endeavors for the Kurdish Liberation movement. He was an active member of the party, executive of KADEK and Coordinator of PJAK. Shapour has been executed by the directives from the leadership of Kongra-Gel in an act of terrorism.

As the Rebuilding Committee of PJAK we condemn this anti-Kurdish act of terrorism and ask Human Rights institutions, democratic organizations and parties, intellectuals and particularly the people of Eastern (Iranian) Kurdistan to condemn this dirty act and prevent future terrorist acts by PKK, the essence of which is terror against free-thinking and sacred objectives of the Kurdish Nation.”

In a statement Patriotic Democratic Party of Kurdistan (PWD) also condemned the murder of Shapour Badoshiveh. PWD said:

“Kongra Gel is responsible of a murder of valuable public leader Siphan Rojhilat. After the murder, Cemil Amed (Eastern Kurdistan responsible of Kongra Gel) and Xelil Gedo were arrested by the Iraqi security forces. Leadership of Kongra Gel [Abdullah Ocalan] through his lawyers had ordered attack to PWD many times. These are all available in meeting notes with his lawyers. After Ocalan’s orders in the lawyers meetings, Cemil Bayik, Murat Karayilan, Duran Kalkan, former European responsible Sahin and the head of the military unit of Kongra Gel Fehman Hussein took action to murder PKK opponents, especially PWD cadres both in Kurdistan and abroad. For this reason, a special team was created. Our beloved friend Sipan became the first victim of this ruthless murder operation.

Again, holders of the murder decisions are Cemil Bayýk, Murat Karayýlan, Shahin, Duran Kalkan and Fehman Hussein who prepared the special assassin team. With this murder, Iranian intelligence was made very pleased. The lives of fifteen PJAK executive sand cadres who are under arrest in Qandil Mountains are also in danger. Kongra Gel administration which is controlled by Turkish General staff, Iranian and Syrian intelligences are in action to abolish Kurdish Freedom Struggle…Unless measurements are taken immediately, the gainings of freedom struggle in four parts of Kurdistan will all be destroyed. The danger is so big that efforts to prevent this anger must also be great. In the current situation, position of Abdullah Ocalan very much harms the Kurdish freedom struggle. Relations carried via Abdullah Ocalan’s lawyers under the control of the Turkish general staff is not healthy. Kurdish people has to see this reality and take action according to it. The most correct thing would either be Abdullah Ocalan’s giving up his attitude of controlling the party in prison or Kurdish people’s denouncing his message and directives…

Honest administrators, cadres and grassroots of the Kongra Gel should raise their voices against the team [Cemil Bayik, Murat Karayilan, Duran Kalkan, Sahin and Fehman Hussein] controlling the party which will be a good way to protect the struggle and all its achievements. Again, leaving Kongra Gel and contributing to formation of PWD would be the most correct attitude.

We promise to be loyal to struggle of our friend Sipan who was an esteemed leader of Eastern Kurdistan and freedom fighter. With this belief we make a call to all Kurdish people and its political forces to take part in democratic action. No to violence amongst the Kurds. Long live the unity, democracy and freedom struggle of the Kurdish people."

Many Kurdish politicians, intellectuals like Mahmut Kilinc (Former DEP parliamentarian), A. Zeki Okcuoglu, (former lawyer of Abdullah Ocalan), Necdet Buldan, (Former Yuksekova Mayor and member of Kurdish Parliament in Exile), Hasan Kaya, (Former chairman of the Istanbul Kurdish Institute), Hevidar Zana (well-known TV anchor), Selim Curukkaya (author of the renowned book “Verses of Apo”) Zeki Ozturk and Murat Dagdelen (former PKK members and current Abdullah Ocalan opponents) and Huseyin Kaytan (prominent poet and writer, who left the PKK a few days ago) all condemned the murder of Badoshiveh.

Prominent politician and writer Sirac Bilgin, in his statement said:

“PKK administrators in a meeting decided to prepare a ’death list’ and with the murder of Shapour this plan was implemented. The assassins were ordered to kill all opponent intellectuals, politicians and influential persons among the people. Myself and my entire family is included in this death list. In this list, many web site owners and those who stand against the Kemalist and anti-Kurdish policies of Abdullah Ocalan and the PKK are included as well. Generally, those political tendencies which are recently getting stronger and who are keen on doing many things for Kurdistan are targets of the PKK. Next in priority are the members of the PWD , who are the middle term targets of the PKK. It is understood that every Kurd except the Kemalists will be the victims of these attacks.”

Also, Northern Kurdistan Movement (Bizavê Bakurê Kurdistan) with a statement condemned the murder. The statement read:

“Like the previous ones, this execution order was also given by Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali and carried out by the administration of Kongra Gel. It is known very well that the ‘ask the price from those persons’ order sent out by Ocalan means “execute them”. From the murder of Shapour Badoshiveh (Siphan Rojhilat) Turkish state, A. Ocalan, courier lawyers and the administration of the Kongra Gel is responsible. What is aimed with this murdering is the violent intimidation of Kurdish national opposition and cleaning all obstacles in front of the turkifying policies of the Turkish state which is carried out by A. Ocalan and Kongra Gel. This murder is very important to show the real face of the PKK which claims to have transformed itself to a democratic party. It is also an indicator of upcoming violence operations of the Kongra Gel against the Kurds who want a pro-Kurdish solution to Kurdish question.

We condemn this murder which is committed by the executives of the Kongra Gel and we call all Kurdish patriots to be sensitive to such incidents. We share the pains of Siphan Rojhilat’s family and friends.”

As known, before this murder, on October 3, Ibrahim Demir, an opponent Kurdish patriot was attacked by PKK in Switzerland and Tahsin Inanc, a high rank member of newly established PWD was attacked in Mosul, Iraqi Kurdistan.

Kanî Yilmaz, balê dikişîne ser kuştina Sîpan Rojhilat û gotinên şofêrê wî wiha tîne ziman:

“Riya me girtin û erebeya me sekinandin. Ji mirovên ku riya me girtin sisê bi maske bûn (rûyê wan niximandî nû). Hevalê Sîpan got: Em jî Kurd in, nekin! Wan got em zanin hûn Kurdin lê hûn xayîn in. Sîpan got: Baş e, wê demê şofêr berdin, bila ew biçe, ew ne bi me re ye, û zarokên wî hene, heyf e. Piştre bi qundaxa sîlehê di serê min de lêxistin û ez avêtime ser rê. Sîpan birin û kêliyek derbas nebû min dengê sîlehan bihîst…”

Kanî diyar dike ku “di dilê Sîpan de mermiyek û di serê wî de jî du mermî lêxistibûn…”

Yilmaz bang li gelê Kurd yê li Ewropa dike û dibêje: "Ez bang li gelê Kurd li Ewropa û bi hezaran kadroyên hêja dikim, li her bajarekî komîteyên serwext ava bikin, komîteyên jin û ciwanan çêbikin… em bi hev re welatparêzî û çareseriyeke xurt pêk bînin, û gulleya ku di sînga kurdîtiyê de lêdikeve rawestînin û bibin bersivek…”
