Animals in Kurdistan

PostAuthor: unitedkurdistan » Thu Jan 05, 2012 6:59 pm

What kinds of animals do we have in Kurdistan?
I know we had bears, but i don't know if we still have bears or if they are all dead. WE did have lions but i think they are all gone now.
Of course we have many wolfs, i remember my father saying how hungry wolfes came in the cold winters to the village. But they are much fewer wolfs now, ilegal hunting, persian, turks bombing the mountains. Before the wolfes came in number like 10-13, now it's maybe 5-4. I know we have many turtles, capricorns, some leopards, ram, wild goat, hyena, jackal, fox, sable, weasel and such birds as the partridge, wild duck, stork, parrot and eagle, turkey, big lake fish.
What else do we have?

In Dersim I saw many jackdaws and magpies, beside storks (i saw a bear also, that coward ran so fast I could not take a pic). In Hasankeyf there are many small hawks.
I know there are panthers in Mount Shirin, but never went up.

My favorite Kurdish animal is… donkeys :D They are so brave and cute !

I heard Kengal dog is the biggest dog in the world? Is this true?
